Daniel Hofer Comment 3Gender pay gapIn European countries gender-related pay differentials persist and in Austria they are quite high. The main disadvantage is that most women work in low paid sectors and do part time work.As a consequence, there are very few of them in higher positions. In my view, it is very hard to combine work and family for women who want children. Therefore women mostly have to decide between career or children. Also the re-enter after parental leave is very hard because they have been out of work for two and a half years. In times of fast developing businesses, this is quite a long time. First of all, women need the same opportunities as men: equal pay and equal treatment at work. Secondly, there should be more child care facilities which are affordable. Consequently, women would have a place for their children and so they could combine work and family. Next, women should be promoted in vocational training and education so they can climb up the career ladder. It is difficult to change minds fast. It is a process.
