Doris Schwarz Comment 1Immigration and Multiculturalism - Canada as a role modelWhen thinking about immigration and multiculturism, there is just one name that comes to my mind: Canada. Canada is a country which is also well known as a “mosaic” or a “melting pot”. And Canada has got these two names because of immigration and multiculturalism. They want every single immigrant to be able to keep their culture, their beliefs and all the other things which are connected with their nation. All these different groups also get aid from the government. The aim of Canada is that they overcome the barriers and that there is no problem anymore with integration and participation of the minorities. And because of this multiculturalism in Canada they also teach languages of different ethnic groups at school. Also a lot of people from Central America, Haiti and Cuba had to emigrate to Canada, because of political and economic difficulties. Because of all these different immigrants in the last 20 years Canada’s character has changed enormously – there were just two founding nations – the French and the British – and now Canada is a modern and successful multicultural society. I think that Canada really represents these two topics.
